Living on Lake Superior, so many of my DIY craft tutorials are inspired by sand and waves, so I hope you enjoy this round up of DIY beach crafts for adults! Whether you’re looking for a craft to keep you entertained on those lazy, internet-free evenings at the cottage – or you spent the day at the beach and want to bring home the vibe – I hope you’ll find the perfect beach related craft idea below.
DIY Ice Dye Pillows + Throws
Inspired by the lake, I’ve made a LOT of DIY ice dyed crafts – see all of my DIY ice dye projects by clicking the link. Once you ice dye fabrics (I love linen), you can find tutorials on Dans le Lakehouse for how to sew throw pillows, make easy DIY no sew throws, and make simple tea towels – easy and beachy DIY coastal home decor ideas.
DIY Driftwood Wreath
Collect small pieces of driftwood on your next beach day, and turn your treasures into this DIY driftwood wreath.
DIY Collage Art
Get inspired by your next trip to the shore and collect pamphlets, magazines, etc., while you’re there to create easy DIY collage art while cozied up on the deck, listening to the waves lap.
DIY Beach Glass
Couldn’t find any beach glass – or didn’t want to take pieces of sea glass home? Make your own DIY sea glass by upcycling old, broken glass pieces. Then you can make all of the beach glass crafts your heart desires!
DIY Note Cards with Quotes About Lakes
Bodies of water evoke such profound thoughts, so I captured some famous lake themed quotes in these handmade note cards – see them all (and the how-to) here.
DIY Shibori Dyed Fabric
If ice dyeing isn’t your thing, try shibori pole dyeing to capture a similar effect, reminiscent of waves and glimmering water. Turn the fabric into DIY coastal home decor, or a pretty wrap/bathing suit cover for the beach!
DIY Driftwood Wall Hanging
You can collect small pieces of driftwood for this – or just cut long pieces into smaller sections. Either way, the end result is this striking driftwood wall hanging – bonus points for turning driftwood into hooks (tutorial for that is also included in the post)!
DIY Alcohol Ink Art
Spend a relaxing afternoon on the deck, using straws to move ink around a glossy sheet of Yupo paper. Alcohol ink art is one of the most relaxing craft/art projects I’ve tried to date!
DIY Driftwood Egg Cups
Slice an interesting driftwood branch into thick pieces, drill a large hole for eggs, and then sand and finish to make these sculptural, one-of-a-kind driftwood egg cups. Obviously I love driftwood crafts, and this might be one of my favorites – they also can double as DIY driftwood napkin rings!
DIY Marbled Coasters
Protect wood surfaces and harness that feeling of waves crashing with these beautiful – and easy – marbled coasters.
DIY Driftwood No Weave Wall Hanging
Turn a stunning piece of driftwood into a beautiful wall hanging by adorning it with yarn wrapped rings, for an easy no-weave wall hanging. Wrapping the rings in yarn is simple, but takes some time, so it’s the perfect craft for an afternoon on a porch swing.
DIY Sailor’s Knot Bracelet
Get ready for your next beach vacay by making some pretty DIY nautical bracelets! These will turn any outfit into a fun, beachy look.
DIY Marbled Flooring Planks
For a bigger project, try dyeing plywood to create these watery planks. I used them as flooring, but once they’re dyed you can use these plywood sheets to make furniture (like these easy nightstands), frame a mirror, create smaller wood crafts with – the ideas are endless and this blue stained wood looks so good with coastal home decor!
DIY Sculptural Fish Art
A fun project to make with kids or adults, turn clay fish into a sculptural, DIY coastal art piece.
DIY Lake Inspired Cricut T-Shirts
If you have a Cricut, you can make your own lake inspired t-shirts! See more of our lake themed t-shirt DIYs here and get inspired to make something to commemorate your next trip to the beach.
DIY Modern Coastal Art
I painted a giant triptych inspired by the lake, but you can easily travel with a smaller canvas and set of acrylic paints to make a smaller piece inspired by the water.
DIY Arm Knit Blanket
If nights at the lake get chilly, quickly arm knit this chunky blanket to wrap yourself up in! You can see from the first photo in this post, I keep it in my bunkie so guests can stay warm if the nights get cool.
DIY Macrame and Driftwood Wall Hanging
Here’s another idea for turning driftwood into DIY coastal home decor: grab a perfectly organic piece of driftwood and try a simple macrame knotting technique to make the wave design. Optional: dip dye the bottom a watery blue. The end result is a super simple DIY driftwood and macrame wall hanging.
DIY Fabric Mushrooms
These DIY scrap fabric mushrooms are hand sewn, which is perfect for lazy days on the deck! They’re easy to make – and don’t need a lot of supplies (you can fit in a ziploc bag to take to the cottage) – but take some time so it’s perfect as a cottage craft. If you’re nestled in the woods, you’ll find tons of inspiration.
Lake Inspired Melt & Pour Soap
Inspired by the waves – and soap making scraps – I made these soap bars. The challenge will be finding the perfect fragrance to remind you of the beach!
I hope you enjoyed this round up of DIY coastal crafts for adults and feel excited about trying some of these beach themed craft ideas. Inspired by where I live, I have a love for driftwood crafts and beach glass crafts – and of course, all things aqua blue! If you don’t get the chance to dip your toes in the water this summer, these beach crafts for adults will help you bring home the vibe. Even just one ice dyed throw or swirling alcohol ink craft can lend a space such summery, coastal cottage vibes.
Your blog always inspires me with its beautiful aesthetics and thoughtful content. I love how you effortlessly blend style and functionality in your home decor ideas. Keep up the amazing work!
