This DIY felt ornament wreath with pom poms is one of my favorite DIY Christmas wreaths. After making my DIY felt gingerbread house ornaments, I loved how they looked line up in a row so I decided to use three of them to make this adorable DIY gingerbread house wreath with DIY yarn pom poms. Keep reading for my supply list and video tutorial.

Supplies:
- 16″ Half Moon Wire Mesh Wreath (mine is from Michael’s)
- Felt Gingerbread House Ornaments
- Yarn
- Pom Pom Maker
- Heavy Duty or Button Thread (something sturdy)
- Scissors
Notes on Supplies: I think the half moon wire mesh wreath I found is so perfect for this, but if you can’t find it you can adjust this gingerbread house wreath idea and use a regular wire wreath form. You can still line them up, along the top of the bottom curve – OR you can just nestle the gingerbread houses in amongst the pom poms for a different look. With that approach, you can also use any of the felt ornaments I’ve shown you to make, from the DIY beaded felt moons to DIY felt animal ornaments!

How to Make Felt Gingerbread House Ornaments:
You can find my gingerbread house ornament tutorial in this post – you’ll find access to a free printable DIY felt gingerbread house ornament template as well! You can add as much, or as little, beading and decorative details as you’d like. I found that three felt gingerbread house ornaments were perfect for this wreath because they fit well and look like a little Christmas village! This is why I add string to my ornaments (instead of sewing in ribbon loops): the ornaments can be repurposed in different ways!

How to Make Pom Poms:
Check out my pom pom tutorial for the full scoop on how to make really dense pom poms. I share lots of tips, from how to wind the yarn and what kind of yarn to choose. I like to use thrifted yard for these types of projects to save money. I also thrifted this pom pom maker – although I already had the same one I had bought online. For this wreath, I used the smaller (green) size from this two pack of pom pom makers.

I chose cream yarn for my pom poms but snow can reflect different colors so even greys and light blues work! Or green – if you happen to live somewhere warm. So jealous…

How to Make This DIY Gingerbread House Wreath with Pom Poms:
- Use my tutorial to make DIY felt gingerbread house ornaments.
- Use my tutorial to make DIY pom poms with yarn of your choice – making sure to leave a long enough tail to tie them onto the wreath form.
- Stitch the bottom of the felt ornaments to the wreath, along the top of the bottom curve.
- Loosely arrange the pom poms and then tie them on (double knot!) and trim the excess yarn.
Here’s a Quick Video Tutorial:
Once you’ve made the poms poms and the felt ornaments, this DIY felt ornament and pom pom wreath is a snap to put together. You could use any felt ornaments for this holiday wreath idea, but I thought the gingerbread houses lined up in a row looked very sweet. Here’s what it looked like, from the front, before affixing the pom poms:

Here’s what the back looks like (you can see I stitched along the bottom and also tied them together with thread):

Where to Hang This DIY Felt Ornament Wreath:
I would recommend this DIY felt ornament wreath for indoor use only – or perhaps on a front door if you also have a storm door. These pom poms and felt ornaments will look very weathered if you expose them to the elements, and the delicate beading might not handle daily wear and tear if they’re often bumped by coat hoods and packsacks as you egress…

I hope you like this DIY felt ornament wreath idea and feel inspired to make your own little DIY felt gingerbread house village…
