Today I’ve rounded up 15 beautiful DIY Christmas ornaments from my DIY archives – I hope you enjoying scrolling through this list and feel inspired to make your own tree ornaments! A lot of these are really inexpensive – and a lot of fun (especially the alcohol ink and the wood burning). Making some ornaments can be such a relaxing way to spend a snowy afternoon so happy crafting.
DIY AGATE SLICE ORNAMENT
This DIY agate slice ornament was super easy to make – plus agate slices come in all kinds of dyed and natural variations, so it’s easy to find the perfect ones for your tree scheme.
DIY BEADED FELT ORNAMENTS
These beaded felt ornaments I made last year were so fun to make! You can make any shape you want – I give you the “trick” to making a simple pattern in the blog post! They are a little time consuming (a perfect project to do while watching holiday movies), but the moons and bears were definitely the easiest. Here’s a cute buy-it-now option.
DIY MINI POTTED PLANT ORNAMENT
This DIY mini potted plant ornament was inspired by an anthro ornament and it’s such a cute way to use up leftovers from any faux flower wreaths or other decor. Plus the customization options here (for the type/color of planter and any decoration) are endless. Here’s some more inspiration!
DIY FAUX FLOWER ORNAMENT BALLS
One of my first midsummer night’s dream themed ornaments, these faux flower ornament balls would look so good on so many tree themes (think mini poinsettias for a traditional tree).
DIY WOOD BURNED BIRCH SLICE ORNAMENTS
These wood burned birch slices are one of the best ornament ideas because it smells so nice when you’re burning the design into the birch slice! If you can’t slice your own birch branch, it’s easy to find online (pre-drilled and ready to use).
DIY BEADED CHRISTMAS SPIDER ORNAMENT
You already know – every tree needs one of these! And, for the first time ever, I’ve made an ad-free, printable Christmas spider PDF tutorial available. I also have a limited number of handmade spiders (made by me!) for sale as well…
DIY ALCOHOL INK ORNAMENT
These alcohol ink ornaments are so mesmerising to make! I promise: watching the ink swirl around will relax any seasonal stress… Here’s the value pack of alcohol inks I’ve bought twice.
DIY BEADED WREATH ORNAMENT
A great way to use up leftover or reclaimed beads (take apart that necklace you never wear!), these easy DIY beaded wreath ornaments take only a few minutes to make.
DIY STOVETOP FILLABLE POTPOURRI ORNAMENT
Turn a dollar store ornament into a cute, natural ornament that doubles as a holiday stove top simmer when the tree is taken down! (You can find the fillable ornaments here if your dollar store doesn’t have them).
DIY MARBLED POLYMER CLAY ORNAMENT
These polymer clay ornaments were inspired by trendy polymer clay jewelry and I love how they sparkle on the tree! Use cookie cutters to make any shape you’d like.
DIY BEADED SNOWFLAKE ORNAMENT
My mom used to make these beaded snowflake ornaments for sale – and no two were alike! Once you get the basic steps, you can alter the design to make your DIY beaded snowflake ornaments one of a kind too. This kit would be a great start (the “spokes” of the wire are already made) and then you can add the details as per my tutorial.
DIY PAINTED BIRCH SLICE ORNAMENT
Making these painted birch slice ornaments was really fun and they’ve held up so well the past two years! Paint any scene – from florals to wintry views – but extra points for using paint with a little shimmer.
DIY MARBLED ORNAMENTS
A different approach to applying alcohol ink (on the outside, as opposed to inside) to ornaments creates a totally different look and creates these beautiful DIY marbled ornaments. These glass ornaments would be a perfect base – but check thrift stores first! Don’t they look a lot like these anthro ones?
DIY FELT TOMTE
Technically, I don’t use my DIY felt tomte as ornaments – but add a little ribbon to the top of the hat, and you can (just like this)!
DIY NATURE INSPIRED FILLABLE ORNAMENT
Another use for those dollar store fillable ornaments: fill them with little nature scenes! A little faux snow, a mini figurine or cut out, some natural clippings and you’re done.
I hope you liked these DIY Christmas ornaments – I can’t wait to share more of the one’s I’m working on for this year!
