Today I’m sharing a delicious recipe for a banana and avocado smoothie recipe – made a little more aqua, courtesy of Blue Majik powder (the same kind I used to tint my turquoise smoothie bowls)! This avocado smoothie actually looked really aqua until I added another 1/2 cup of avocado and then it became more green (and even more creamy and delicious).
Confession: We Don’t Like Avocados!
I don’t really love avocado, and neither does hubby, but I still buy them and try to get us to eat them. Hubby’s verdict: slimy, lol. Lately I’ve been buying all of my groceries online and that’s how I stumbled across frozen avocados! I clicked “add to cart” and, surprisingly, we LOVE frozen avocados. We no longer have to stare at these weird dinosaur egg shaped things, wondering if they’re ripe. That’s a relief! As an added bonus, because they’re frozen, they’re the perfect addition to our summer smoothies – they add a little creaminess and substance but, thanks to the banana in this smoothie, we can’t realllly taste them. There’s a hint, but overall this avocado smoothie with banana recipe is sweet and satisfying. So basically I’m hiding avocados in our food but hey – at least we’re eating them, right? We’re getting the benefits of those healthy, beneficial fats! Adding avocado (and a bit of protein powder) definitely turned this into a way more filling smoothie idea.
Ingredients for Banana & Avocado Smoothie Recipe:
- 3 cups frozen sliced bananas
- 1 cup frozen chopped avocado
- 1/2 cup yogurt (plain or vanilla)
- 2.5 cups almond milk (or milk or other non-dairy alternative)
- 3 small scoops Blue Majik (optional)
- 1/2 scoop Vanilla protein powder (optional)
- Turquoise striped paper straws (definitely not optional, lol)
How to Make an Avocado Smoothie with Banana:
I love making smoothies! In the summer we enjoy them so often – especially if it’s a hot day and we’ve been working outside or boating. I even made them for the roofers when they were here a couple summer ago, but they seemed super confused by them. I’m not sure those guys eat a lot of fruits and veggies when left to their own devices…
I normally make up my recipes based on what’s in the fridge/freezer and start by adding the frozen ingredients and then I add the almond milk. I use my ice crush button on the blender, but frozen fruit can be harder then ice, so go easy on your blender. Once it’s more blended, I switch to a frappe or blend setting and then I add the yogurt, protein powder, and Blue Majik powder. Click this link to read more about Blue Majik powder – what it is and why it’s beneficial. I blend until totally smooth and give it a little taste test – we found this avocado smoothie recipe to be sweet, but you can always add a tbsp of honey or another 1/2 cup of banana. This banana avocado smoothie recipe makes a blender FULL of smoothie and fills two or three big milkshake glasses (or 24 oz mason jars) – or can make smaller servings for a family of four.
If you’re making your own smoothie recipe, my tip is to start small: don’t fill the blender right away. Add a small portion of fruit with some liquid and blend and then keep alternating between adding solids and liquids – that way you can keep the ratio even and add more frozen fruit if it’s too runny or more liquid if it’s too solid. Paper straws are optional!
