I’m waiting for the paint to dry on some recent DIY projects, so I thought I would share a couple reader projects. Erin, from 110+2, and Beth, from After the Dust Clears, were both inspired by my simple black & white DIY painting and made fabulous paintings of their own!
Erin created a gorgeous diptych in navy, orange and gold (click here to see more photos of her paintings):

Aren’t Erin’s paintings lovely? I especially like that she made a pair from different sized canvases.
Now, for inspiration a little less literal, Beth emailed me a link to her painting (click here to see) inspired by the same black & white abstract . . . but hers ended up completely different. I love that, and I do the same thing: I start with something I plan to copy but the creative juices flow and I end up with something not at all like what I planned! I think her finished piece is pretty amazing: soothing colours and interesting composition. What do you think?

Thanks Beth and Erin for sending me your links and photos! I love seeing how (or if) folks are inspired or motivated by my DIY projects and I especially love seeing a different spin. If you’ve tried one of my DIY projects, send me an email ([email protected]), because I’d love to feature your version on Dans le Townhouse.
Love these! I love starting a project with an idea in your head of how it will look like – only to have it turn out completely different (but awesome). You've inspired me to create some art for our house – I just need convince the Hubs to let me redecorate first!
Get me your Hubs on the phone, I can convince anyone of anything, lol. But your place is looking gorgeous, don't redecorate! At least not my favorite parts. But definitely make some art – you will make something stunning, I can see it already!
Lovely! I am so going to try out the top set… so pretty!
They are so glamorous, aren't they?
Thanks for featuring me, Tanya! Erin's paintings are gorgeous.
I'm happy for the chance to show my other readers your artwork, so thanks for emailing me the link!!
I love those first paintings especially! Great ideas!
Thanks again for the inspiration, Tanya. And of course thanks for the feature 🙂 Going to check out Beth's site now.
My pleasure! Thanks for sending me the link to your post.
Erin, I'm following you now. Great blog!
Beautiful! You inspired me to do some as well, I loved the paintings you had done for your bedroom so I got out some paint. They ended up completely different than I expected as art tends to go! I haven't posted them on the blog yet because the wall I want to hang them on desperately needs a coat of paint…Your post is motivation to get my act together!
I'm so happy to hear that!! That's what I love about blogging: we seem to motivate one another to try new things (and to finish them). I am eagerly looking forward to peaking at your paintings!
Really nice! It must feel really good to be able to see how you've inspired others! I pinned your DIY abstract painting a while ago, this is a good reminder to get on that already 🙂
I'm paying it forward! I get so inspired by the bloggers I follow (and now Pinterest is inspiration overload) so it does feel neat to have someone give one of my projects a go. And I LOVE how different they turn out in someone else's hands.
OH my goodness! I love how she rocked her version with orange and gold! 🙂
WOW! Both paintings are amazing. I need to re-read your post and create one for myself!
Definitely! I can't wait to see what you create, but I bet it will be gorgeous!! Be sure to share 🙂
