I promised I wouldn’t blog about the teeniest details of our cheap-cheap-cheap basement facelift but I’m super excited. After painting the stairwell (which I thought would motivate me) I kind of stalled. I painted the railing, sure, but then totally distracted myself painting wood spoons and canvases.
However, yesterday I painted a wall in the basement!! Yep – actual work on the basement took place. I shoved all of the stuff to one side and painted an entire wall. I will need to work around the basement slowly, shifting our stuff as we go. No way am I letting this mess spill into another part of the house.
But that’s not all! I also:
- Started work on the play kitchen I finally decided to make
- Primed an ornate mirror I bought ages ago
- Painted a frame Hubby made for this painting (details next week)
Hubby:
- Measured the laundry room and made a supply list (lots of drywall . . . )
- Removed the Styrofoam that releases toxic fumes if caught on fire
- Removed the hideous door/curtain thing
- Ran out to get more paint, and tried not to laugh at me when he discovered I had sat in paint in his absence (I guess I shouldn’t DIY unattended)
And today . . . we are off to get drywall and supplies. We’re hoping to make a major dent in the basement this weekend (even one wall actually created in the laundry room would be swell) and I hope to knock off at least a couple of my in-progress projects so I can show you next week.
Here’s a sneak peak:
Meanwhile, my painting area is out of commission, which is a bummer because I was disappointed with the last two paintings I made (although I am still loving the bedroom abstract changes and the new bold painting, which will soon find a home). But maybe, given my track records, it is best if I have fewer DIY distractions.
Meh . . . |
What are you up to this weekend?
I like the bottom two paintings! Hope you make lots of progress this weekend!
Thanks Faith!
I have "painting underwear" too. HA! and painting socks 🙂
You think they're meh… I think the paintings are gorgeous! I hope I can be as productive as you on our mudroom tomorrow… I would really love to move past the spackle and actually get some paint on the walls!
Good luck with your mudroom!
Looks fab!Also, I've nominated you for a Liebster blog award 🙂 http://welliguessthisisgrowingup.wordpress.com/2012/03/16/and-the-award-goes-to/x
Thanks so much!!
Good luck with the reno and painting! I like those two paintings – I love the colours!
I wish I had painting underwear! It could be the new "thing". 🙂
Ha ha!
LOL Love the painting underwear! I went to an important meeting the other day (in that other world that has nothing to do with what we blog about) and looked down to see that I had yellow overspray on my fingernails from a DIY project I had done the day before. Nothing says professionalism like spray paint on your manicure!
Great work….that cracked me up…painting underwear to go with your painting clothes lol. Can't wait to see more basement updates!
Hey I really like those last two paintings… not "meh" at all!! Your basement is going to look great!
Yay for making progress! Hope the rest of your weekend is just as productive! 🙂
i LOVE those last paintings! i have a major things for pastel colours. read my latest entry about white and help me!
as a follow up to your comment on my blog re: whites, did you paint all of your trim and ceilings with the same white as the walls?
The trim, walls and doors were painted with the exact same eggshell finish in the exact paint. Paint store folks recommend a different finish for door frames but I was too cheap to buy another kind of paint and it worked out fine. The ceilings, however, were painted with ceiling paint (so they aren't weirdly glossy) but the paint was tinted to the same shade as the walls. I find that all the walls and trim wash nicely, but, again, due to laziness I use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser a lot to chase down scuffs and the odd fingerprint.
well, i went out today and got SO many white paint samples! oh my lordy! i couldn't believe how many there were. when i got home, i automatically got rid of the ones with pink undertones and yellow undertones. you find that snow fall is rather warm, i think you said? i picked up the sample by behr and it seems pretty good – it almost looks a little cool toned to me though. but then again, once i put it on a wall next to my honey floor it may take on an entirely different look. i'm going to get some samples and see how it works. i'm also looking at silky white by behr, which seems like a pretty colour. it's very white but it seems like it might be a bit creamy underneath. i definitely need samples! the honey floors in this house are atrocious. i'd like to lay brand new ones in a similar shade – these ones are quite beat up and horrid looking so it's hard to get an accurate picture of what paint would look like on a wall.
I think what is in the room makes a big difference. My walls didn't seem particularly creamy until I tried to add a very white fabric and realized how off-white Snow Fall really is. Go with your instinct – what paint colour do you like most, right away (without having to think about it).
I have a painting bra. The joys of oil based primer. 🙂
I probably would too, if I actually wore a bra while painting. Lol.
