I have sat on this but I don't have kids so I can't speak to whether it's tippy with a lot of roughhousing or whether it can withstand getting hard use. As I understand it, kids can be tough on things! So I'm adding that caveat, haha. But definitely don't skip that bottom piece, it adds a lot of stability.

Would love to create this with the kids! Is it sturdy enough to sit on or do you think we would have to add additional support?

I'm so happy you like this project - and it's so perfect for using up leftover supplies! You might even be able to get some cuts at the store. I think there's a max. # some places but if you go when it's not super busy and nab someone who looks friendly you can get some great help.

This is a brilliant design, Tanya! I'm so eager to try it out -- especially because I have paint left over from my teal back door face lift. I have minimal power tools at home, so this looks within my skill range. And I love the thought that this can be a portable sideboard for an al fresco dinner on the patio.
