Thanks for this excellent information. I'm sorry to disappoint, but I did toss the pillow because I just didn't like it and I have no plans to ever sell this chair (there is a long line of people wishing to stealing it from me, should I ever tire of it). I know keeping it would have been ideal for re-sale. But I'm greedy, and I keep what I find! Now I really want a footstool (I even have leftover fabric). I totally understand that this choice is very bold, given the understated fabric of the original design. I thought that the curvy shapes of the fabric suited the lines of chair and I definitely was motivated to pick something that suits my decor. I had seen many beautifully refurbished chairs for sale at the time I found this – ones that were done in era-appropriate fabrics – but I just didn't love them in my space, so I set about looking for a chair to re-upholster in my own fabric choice. I really, really appreciate that you shared all of this information with me! I spent so long just loving this chair and not knowing the manufacturer or history, but I'm so happy to now know more about it. I just wish a pair for it wasn't out of my budget!

Greetings from Sweden! Your fåtölj (easy chair) is one of several styles designed by Yngve Ekström and manufactured by Swedese. His most common and mass-produced chair is the Lamino, but the Mingo is more limited and harder to find. The Mingo came in high-back style, like yours, and there is also a mid-back style without the attached neck pillow. Speaking of the pillow – I hope you didn't throw it away! The beauty of the pillow is that you can flip it over the back when you don't need it and vice versa. The chair was sold with an optional foot stool and these are very hard to come by. In Sweden your chair sells for about 6000 SEK or approx. $900 so you have spent your money well. Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the world of Swedish furniture and design! P.S. At first, I wasn't sure about the rationale for the new fabric choice, but now that I see the chair in your livingroom I can see how it nicely complements its surroundings.

Thanks so much! If you re-upholster something in this fabric, can I please see? That would be so neat. Here's the info on the fabric: Master Fabric Ltd – Flower Power. I got it from Kessels Upholstery in Ottawa, but I doubt that's of much help. But, on the off chance you can't find it, perhaps they can ship?

Love the chair, especially with the fabric you chose. I use those same colors. Do you have info on the fabric? I'd love to use it on my dining chairs (maybe) and/or on a living room chair.

Awww, thank you! Collecting is a lot of fun – I like trolling antique shops and thrift stores with a purpose.You know, I do sometimes worry about bugs. A friend of mine had ants crawling out of the wood pile she kept beside her fireplace. We've had a wood burning fireplace for five years (here and in our last place) and, so far (knock on wood, lol), we haven't had any buggy friends pop out of the woodwork (lol). When I load the wood cubby, I give them all a good shake and knock them against each other. That's probably more for good luck than any practical purpose. I'm just hoping for the best!

We have a few mid century pieces and discovering your blog is giving me the itch to start collecting and redecorating.Are you worried about bugs when you store wood inside? We had I welcomed visitors when I did that.

I've always loved that Ekstrom chair. To say it's a keeper is an understatement. 🙂
