Thanks!! It finally feels like I am making progress. When I start writing the chapter based on this work, it will really feel "real".I think commonplace spots are important too! Today we went to my favorite cafe and then patisseries where the folks know me. We also went by one of the libraries I worked in, so he's really getting a sense of where I have been spending my time. But I've made sure to take him to museums too - handpicked for him (Transportation Museum, here we come!)I always plan unplanned time, lol. For trips I print a calendar and write "free time". With a list of potential activities, haha.

It does blow my mind. And the most random, unimportant businesses are in buildings that would be a historic monument in Canada, lol (if not older!) It is pretty lovely to constantly see such history and such beautiful architecture as the norm. The only down side is there are no fines for not picking up dog poo here, so much of my time is spent looking DOWN at the sidewalk!! :)

yay for (mostly) finishing research! It's great that your hubby is now there- I know what you mean about sharing the commonplace aspects of a different locale- sharing what you've been living while you've been away because these are the daily interfaces that the other would normally be familiar with. Makes you feel like a little kid the first time your parents visit your school and you can show them where you sit in class. I loved "with some unplanned time planned, too..."- funny!

This is so unreal to me...I live in a place where if a building is over 20 years old it is torn down.To see this HISTORY must blow your mind, it would me.I just can't even imagine being surrounded in this type of architecture!!!What a wonderful thing to experience with your hubby.Have fun and enjoy it!!!PS I have to reply to your comment today, Thank you!!!My days are full and to find a minute a day to sit is always at night as child falls asleep. To be able to end my day with zoning out in front of the tv and make something is the best :)Amy

Me too!! I am so happy he's here. He is such a tough cookie, too, really quickly adjusting to the time zone. I thought for sure he'd be jet lagged all day, but he's already in time with me :)

Thanks! Oh, how I wish I could have saved some trees. Photographs were allowed for a daily fee, but the lighting was so bad they just became these glare-filled things, impossible to read. I think it's a right of passage to have a suitcase filled with research, lol. Now I get the added stress of worrying about LOSING all of this data and having to come back ;)

congratulations on finishing that stage of your research. I remember lugging tonnes of photocopies from one country to another during my research, the invention of pdfs and usb drives were such a saviour (for my back, and for excess luggage fees!). Enjoy your time with your husband.
