I totally hate bun feet. I feel your pain.Your customizations sound amazing! I agree, finding a piece that you feel good about sawing into is so liberating and can be a major influence in getting something perfect. The work you've done to hide everything sounds perfect. I think just the TV on top with other things hidden can look super good too. Why can't all these things be wireless yet? Powered magically from my will to make them run. Argh, tech. Sounds like you have quite a bit to contend with too!!

Okay, a bit late to reply but thanks for this post- I am the reader with the question, so thank you. I just recently solved our media centre problem by customizing a mid-mod, 9-drawer dresser I bought off kijiji. The task was hell but now that I've finished and threaded all those cables through the holes I drilled and connected all the tech, we will be living with this for awhile. In the end, I do like it b/c it accommodates a lot of equipment and I only have to look at the flat screen that sits atop. We don't have cable but watch movies or a TV series that we download from the computer. The mac in our 'office', we use for downloading movies & our music library on itunes. But we have an old PC designated for storing & watching movies that we wifi over from the mac. And everything plays through our stereo- so the mac, speakers, TV and PC all connect to the stereo receiver, a wifi receiver, a cordless mouse receiver & an external hard drive (more movie storage) connect to the PC, as well as, the wii and PS3 (I know! someone save me) connect to the TV and the 6 power cords for those devices. I modified the column of drawer to accommodate the PC & receiver (to finish I am converting the 3 drawer fronts into a single door. The top centre drawer I modified to hold the wii & PS3. The remaining drawers hold the video games & controllers, storage for our netbook, battery charger, board games and lego (which takes up 2 drawers itself). Whew! It is truly an 'entertainment' centre. Everything that could go wrong did- it was one of the hardest diy's I've even done.Not due to the complexity since most everything worked out as planned in the end. But those small things that can often go wrong, did- for nearly every aspect of it. From the stripping the paint off the dresser top to replacing the feet with a mid-mod style (the previous owners replaced the originals with odd looking bun feet). It really fell into place though, and the fact that the dresser wasn't an excellent piece to start made it easier to saw off the drawer fronts & drill holes in the back to run cords. Now, just to make those drawer faces into a door and figure out what kind of concealed hinge will fit my door. -sorry for the lengthy comment but I think that writing it all out is a form of therapy ; )Cindy

My tv solution is simple — a laptop that sits on the arm of the couch! I haven't owned a tv for 7-8 years. I do watch some shows on the internet but pretty infrequently so the laptop works great for me. I like how your unit has storage for your pretty pottery.

I like the sculptural with intention look. Sometimes you just have to make art out of everyday objects. You're so clever, you come up with the most beautiful, inventive ideas (a certain lampshade comes to mind).

See glass is my favorite part, too, and it wasn't in the catalog. I spotted it in the store, in the display area, at the last second. Happy accident!The Vittsjo is cute, too! It's hard not to have TV's front and centre.

Ha ha! Great minds think alike. I love that your hubby didn't need you to finish the sentence!! Like the woman in that Ikea commercial "start the car! start the car!!" LOL.Thesis is chugging along SLOWLY. My god, why is the Hungarian language so hard?? Some of these words are the length of a sentence! Thanks for asking 🙂

Darn those plaster walls! Wall mounting is another good option – very tidy and neat looking.
