This post very clearly and succinctly outlines how to build a canvas frame and install it in a way that will force a warped canvas to lie flat against the wall. What I promise to deliver is right there in the title: “DIY Picture Frame + How to “Fix” a Warped Canvas”. I’m sorry reading bores you, but I wouldn’t advertise that fact if I were you.

Starts off with 1. How to make……. Then 2. How to repair a …….. but no reference or link. I simply wanted to be able to read about fixing a warped frame. No, reading bores the pants off me, unless it’s what I want to read.

I haven’t tried that myself, but I can definitely see that working – it depends on the severity of the twist and warp… I’m sorry I can’t offer up any help with that!

Nice frame solution for the canvas that makes it look nicer overall. For a canvas that hasn’t been finished yet (still need to paint it!), I have the keys installed to stretch it but it’s still warped (won’t lay flat). So what about using L-bracket in the interior corners of the canvas stretcher so that it lays flat? I heard that tip on YouTube and would like to know if anyone has had success with it.

The biggest help was using the frame to screw it to the wall – I was able to get the canvas completely flat/flush that way. I actually still have this art hung up this way (new house, new wall) and it’s still perfect. In fact, forcing it straight this way all these years, it’s naturally flatter. And it doesn’t become crocked like my other paintings do, after someone bumps or touches them.

Hi! Thank you so much for this tutorial. I was just wondering did adding the frame fix the warped canvas? Or is screwing it to the wall the only way to get it to lay flat. I know it’s been a few years since you wrote this but if you could please get back to me with an answer I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you
